At Golden Dog Title & Trust, scrolling through Facebook or Instagram has shown us that a number of families have acquired pets to help them navigate the pandemic. We have seen dogs, cats, and chinchillas. Families aren’t just looking for dog houses anymore.

When customers are looking for new or different homes, they want their dreams to be reality. You may be asked about the number of rooms, the neighborhood or the backyard, but according to a survey by the National Association of Realtors (NAR), 43% of households would move to better accommodate their pets.

You can tell from our name that we are animal lovers; we know we’re not alone! Take a look at that recent NAR survey; 81% of those who responded said they loved animals, too. Animals are more than pets; these furry creatures are important, family members and finding the right home with the right features for them is key.

For example, families consider the following:

  • 49% of home buyers consider a fenced yard important
  • 27% want their home big enough for family AND furry friends
  • 24% are concerned with pet-friendly flooring when looking for a new home
  • 75% of millennials say they would pass on a home, no matter how good it is, if it didn’t meet the needs of their pets (according to a Realtor.com survey)

When marketing and selling homes to pet lovers, it can be helpful to include information about what pet services surround the home. Dog parks, veterinarians and even obedience schools could make a difference in a successful sale.
